Life is a never-ending story, and it always feels incomplete. We’re constantly searching for solutions to our problems — but every solution seems to create a new problem. Can’t understand? Let me tell you a story that explains this truth perfectly.
This is the story of a boy who wished to become a king.
A very long time ago, there was a boy born into a poor family. He grew up watching his parents struggle, working tirelessly just to bring food to the table. Most days, they went to bed hungry, surviving on hope more than anything else.
Years passed, and the boy grew older — but poverty never left his family. His only dream was simple: to see his parents eat until they were full. He didn’t wish for gold or fame — only freedom from suffering. Deep down, he longed to escape poverty. The desire burned within him, but he had no idea how to make it happen.
One thing he did know was this: hard work alone wasn’t enough. Because he had worked hard every day of his life — yet nothing had changed.
These thoughts haunted him.
One day, he went to the village market to buy some onions. That’s when he saw him — the king.
The king rode through the market on a majestic white horse, surrounded by guards. He wore fine silk robes, and his body glittered with gold and precious stones. One glance and you could tell — this man had never known hunger.
At that moment, something clicked in the boy’s mind.
“That man has everything I’ve ever dreamed of.”
He decided then and there: I want to be a king. He believed that if he had the crown, all his problems would disappear. His parents would live comfortably. He would finally feel peace and satisfaction.
That night, the boy cried out to God:
“God, I want to be a king. I want to be satisfied.”
God appeared and replied gently,
“I can give you everything you’ve asked for… but nothing will change. Think carefully. You may not be satisfied with what you receive.”
The boy responded,
“How could I not be happy when my poverty disappears?”
God smiled and said,
“Your battles will never end — they’ll only change form.”
The boy frowned.
“I don’t understand.”
God simply said,
“You will. Your wish is granted. Go.”
The next morning, the boy opened his eyes — and gasped.
Where his small mud house once stood, there was now a castle. Servants ran toward him, clothing him in fine silk and adorning him with jewellery. He walked into the royal hall and saw his parents seated at a grand table, wearing elegant clothes and eating a feast like nothing he had ever seen before.
Tears rolled down his cheeks.
“Thank you, God,” he whispered.
“We’re free.”
That night, he slept peacefully, believing that the poor boy’s problems had finally ended.
Until the next morning.

News arrived like a thunderstorm.
The kingdom was under attack. Enemies surrounded the city. The army lacked weapons. The people were starving. The treasury was empty. Chaos spread like wildfire.
Everyone turned to him — the King.
He was paralysed with fear. He had no idea what to do. He cried out to God once more.
“Please, take it all away! I don’t want to be a king anymore!”
But God didn’t smile this time.
“I’m sorry, son. I cannot take back what I’ve given. This is what you asked for. Now, it’s your responsibility. This is your battle. This is what being a king means.”
God repeated,
“Your battles never end — they only take new form.”
In that moment, the boy — now king — realised the truth of life.
When he was poor, his battle was to feed his family.
Now, as king, his battle was to protect a kingdom, feed thousands, and carry the weight of every citizen’s hope.
Problems don’t disappear when you succeed. They evolve.
Most of us are like that boy.
We believe that if we make more money, become more successful, or gain more power, we will finally find peace.
But life doesn’t work like that.
It’s like a video game. Just when you think you’ve beaten the final boss… a new, harder level appears.
You don’t win life by escaping problems.
You win by getting stronger.
So never assume that a moment of peace means your struggles are over. It just means life is giving you time to rest… before the next battle.
Don’t chase comfort. Prepare for the next level.
Because life is a never-ending journey of battles.
And always remember:
With great power comes great responsibility.
